Less than tow months till Autorama. The mad rush has already begun. It's always worth it, the rush, the stress, the planning, the lost sleep, the mad thrash. What we refer to as simply "Cobo" has grown into our favorite show as a club. Not only because of the deep history as "the Show" in customs cars period, but also each year our club display has grown and matured. We started out with 4 primered halfway finished cars and a few old parts spread on the ground. Now we've been told we are taking up the biggest spot they have with almost 15 cars. We've done full on displays with a garage built on site, one year we brought only cars that had never been seen before "our second cars", this year were bringing all they can house. We have 4 cars from out of state 3 from the Ohio "mother chapter", 1 from our Devils Brigade "military chapter and 10 from our own stable. 6 of which are under various states of construction. Busy busy times. Come down an hang out and have a beer this year, we wont have any support gear to sell, we wont have a bad ass garage to hangout in, hell all of our cars wont be finished by then but well be there ready to finally relax and enjoy the first show of 2012. see ya there or yer square.

Been a while, as usual i'm about to say ill keep up on this more often, but i think this time i just might. We have some cars in the chapter that are nearing "completion" and some just starting. And as it seems there are a few changes in growth, for the most part one being age, most of the current line up of vehicles are considerably older in age and harkening back to the art deco age of customs such as Chris's 40 ford and his 37 Ford, and other changes deal with quality and speed such as Toms' 34 and my own 29' late 50's era Drag inspired cars. Are prospects are maturing quite nicely as well.

We wont be making a display to compete at Cobo hall this year, we will be concetrating on more cars and better quality cars yet again. Each year we hit cobo as a club we bring at least one car thats considered finished and more than half the cars are ones that we haven't shown before. thats a tradition we'd like to carry on.

So with that being said ill try to post random pictures of current work were doing in the garage until February. Once it gets warm out all bets are off on my participation on here, i just may share the password and login with my officers so we can all make entries and get more of a broad spectrum of the chapter from others.

So that being said, back at it in the garage. Well see ya soon. Check back.

Well well well, look whos back.

not sure were to begin y'all. Well it was brought up at the last meeting that this aint been updated in quite some time. Well here goes. It was a super busy summer Sins of Steel was awesome, since then pretty much weve been driving and planning whats next for us. a few trips to Ohio was good for us. Not alot of shows but a good amount of driving, I'll post some random shots from our summer within the next few days. We have two new members in the club who should have been down from the start Tom an Matt are great brothers and true traditional car guys for life . We have quite a few projects going down this winter as well so some of our cars may look a lil different come spring. We also have two in progress hot rod builds in the club , I know i know your used to seeing customs are here but as we are maturing our cars are getting older. We've been ironing out alot of things lately and from a founding member i must say it is feeling more like a family every day. Were right where we need to be. So for now our sights are on our projects and getting all the cars you've not seen of ours to Cobo Hall instead of just showing up with the same old stuff. Were planning on leaving that stuff at home and showing off some of our hidden gems. So I'll try and keep this lil blog going as we cover our winter projects and new builds. and after the first of the year possibly a list of shows for next year, if we decide to do shows this year. We spent alot of this past summer only going to shows that benifit our traditional hot rod community and the rest of the time travling to thing or places we havent been. We dont want this thing to get stagnent. So check back from time to time and well have some updates but it wont be like it was all random girlie pics and links, only solid info and pictures of our progression in to this next year.

It's been a long time, I promise again taht ill keep up on this more frequently. It's hard during summer. We have had a suggestion that all the members have access to this so any time at random anyone in the chapter can post on here. So on to the latest news around the campfire. Brother Eric is shipping off to Iraq next week (we wish him well and hope to see him soon) and he left us the keys to the 31.... oooooh boy! Also Chris's new chassis is ready for paint, we may have some pics soon of a trim and paint change on the Red 49 Cartermobile, Roberto's 59 Elky is awaiting a really unique wheel and tire combo which is on its way, Dave's new 72 SuperVan is the raddest daily driver around, Franks 59 F-100 is gettin a bit of road time and just may see the Gasser treatment this winter, And we have been Seeing alot of Crazy Tom & Ionia Matt lately and it's a good thing. In merchandising news Were almost out of our current shirts and they have been discounted, after that i do believe we're gnna plan our next thing which probably wont pop up till end of fall. The last 12 months have brought forth alot of progression in our work, we lost two cars but gained two better ones, we had two big facelifts on two vehicles, and gained a few older projects, I feel were coming in to our own quite well as most of our current vehicles are close to finished. In other news Dave has become a So-Cal dealer and has plans to open a Speed Shop in berkley right off of woodward within the next year keep that in mind for any future hard parts needed for traditional hot rod chassis. This year we have concentrated on ourselves rather than shows and cruises, if you see Dave at a show or cruise it's most likely he'll be in the SuperVan pedalin gear, and were doing a frame off on Chris's new Ford, and We put Franks truck on the road so he can terrorize Wyandotte. Next up most likely some cruises to the Drive-In, and Bars, Bonfires and BBQ's. Were workin on our brotherhood and our cars as much as we can I'm proud to see what were doing together, it means more to me than driving to Hunnert AGAIN. So stay tuned as hopefully a few of the other fellas post up pic's and progress on what they're workin on.

Here's some random pic's from the course of the day cars, people, and events. It was soo much fun were definatley going to keep uping the ante on games. The horseshoe tournament is a staple, members from every local club were in it, it kicked ass. The pedal and shoppin car races were so crazy it was fun to see abunch of liquored up adults acting a fool. Food was great, and a big thank you to anyone who brought anything to help out. I'm confident that next year will be even better. We are going to continue the your bring a car you get a patch from here on out so don't make any plans for the saturday of Memorial Day weekend ever again cuz you'll wanna be at the BBQ. Last monday Chris Kowal and his brother Thomas Kowal were builders on the critically acclaimed Motor City Motors show on the discovery channel, as of now it's airing mid day on mondays and tuesdays. it's a hard episode to find online but here is a preview . Brother Brandons show " MotorCity Mullet" is available to watch on line hopefully once "mythbusters mania" is over they will all be re aired at primetime. the show is a good show and has many detroit historical factiods throughout the series. Car: 1666 Pontiac GTO Hardtop

Motor: 421

Trans: Super T-10 four-speed

Modifications: Car is done in a very '60s flavor but with a more modern stance and suspension. Mildly lowered with Eibach springs (rears cut down), big sway bars front and rear, and Hotchkis rear control arms. The body is basically stock except for a fiberglass hood and front bumper. Metallic lime green body with HOK coarse silver flake roof. Three different hoods to be able to change up the look; late '60s L-88 with lace paint, 4" cowl, and my favorite, the 4" Thunderbolt teardrop which is an original '60s aftermarket A&A part. It has a hand fabricated driveshaft tunnel to clear the shift linkage and aftermarket parking brake.

Drivetrain: The engine is a bored-out '69 428 block with a '66 421 crank, actual displacement ends up around 433. Heads are 1968 GTO #16 castings. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock carb and a street/strip Crower hydraulic cam. The engine was built by Wisconsin based Pontiac engine oracle Dan Whitmore. Said to make about 500 HP at the flywheel.

The trans is a stock '77 Super T-10 four-speed with a Lakewood scattershield and a rebuilt Hurst Competition Plus shifter mounted with Super/Shifter straight rods and a '60s era reverse lockout. The rear end is a 9" Ford with Moser axles.

Interior: Hand stitched silver vinyl in a pattern that resembles the original. Flaked dash insert and silver flake steering wheel. RPM is monitored by a mid-60s SW tach and transmitter and the clock pod in the dash now contains a custom shift light in which the lens is a picture of Ronnie Sox– When "Mr. 4-Speed" lights up, its time to bang 'em!

History: I bought the car while I was in college and didn't have the funds to do much with it. Ended up being an engine rebuild that spiraled out of control. The car sat disassembled for about 10 years until I had a steady enough job and enough confidence to tackle its resurrection. This is the only car that I've had that I was able to make every decision about how I wanted it to be. I was aware that the car would be far more valuable if it were restored to factory condition, but I'd grown tired of all the dorky purist resto-nerd rules that go along with muscle cars. I believed at the time that this would be the only car I would be able to do up to this extent, so I did it in a way that I always wanted to see a muscle car done.

I approached the car as a combination of all my favorite things that modified '60s cars had to offer. Sort of a tweaked out factory show car that includes elements that could be found on customs or drag cars from the same era. I focused most of my research to my favorite window; a rough timeframe from '66 to '72, and tried to set aside notions of accurately reproducing a car built at that time but instead to crate something that represents what could have been done back then.

Even though it ended up costing me way more than I'd ever thought I'd spend, I'm pretty happy with the result. The thing I hadn't factored in was the amount of attention that a loud as hell, metallic green '66 GTO with a silver flake roof gets. I'm typically not the type of person that wants to draw attention to myself, but its absolutely unavoidable in this car. I suppose its a small price to pay for being able to stomp the throttle on a life-sized '60 HotWheels car.
