The Prez. Speaks...

Summertimes a Comin' ! thats the feeling I get as i spend the days after work now with the garage door open and stereo pumpin. We had our first post Cobo meeting this last sunday and the general feeling among the majority of the club is "screw car shows" . Let me explain first of all for all you people that don't live in detroit. Here in Detroit it's not like the rest of the car show seasoned country we cram a years worth shows and cruise nights into 4 to 5 months. A cruise night or car show happend somewhere in southeastern michigan every day. No lie and a cruise night in the detroit suburban outer areas can reach 200 cars on a tuesday at 3 pm. not to even mention the month of August when the streets are invaded for a month with like 5 million cars for the phenom simply called "Woodward". Well it sounds rad, its costs lots of cash, gas, beer, food to hit em all which we have done year in year out while also hitting hunnert, and a few other long drive weekenders. this year We are focusing on local relations. First off "SINS OF STEEL" a partnership with all the local clubs which spits in the face of corprate boughtout shows that commericalize "rat rods", second our 2nd Annual Invite Only BBQ which will have Free food, games for Adults and Kids alike, a senic spot to drive your cars to and hang out ala family picnic style with all the other car people that matter . It's our lil contribution to the scene you just bring your beer and maybe a dish to pass and it's all good. If you were there last year then your welcome back it's same day (saturday of memorial day weekend) if it's your first year than email
roaddevil@clubmember.org " for directions and info. Third were going to plan on doing a number of trips to ohio and the ohio devils are going to come up here for cookouts and no reason whatsoever. Thats the kinda club we are we just want to drive our cars and see good people so were taking this year off of alot of shows we normally go to and in turn are going to hit a handful of ones we never have before, and spending alot more time doing thing that matter like attending the Flat rock figure 8's and the Milan nostalgic drags, hell we might even hit a bowling alley or two. So with that all said We also want to thank everyone who came and hung out at cobo with us, drank our beer, bought a t-shirt, and read all the info in our display. It means alot to us to perserve the history and keep it alive, the way it should be. Thats the one show I can't wait to do again. Also if you did swing by and we were out of your size just so you know more sizes are on the way along with girly shirts and were looking into kids and long sleevers, so drop us a line if you still want one, we'll have a pay pal set up soon for the support gear, which by the way helps us fund our BBQ and feed all ya alls. Its a win win situation. I'd personally like to thank all my friends in the Poorboys, Nightmares, Deadlast, Deadbeats & Peckerheads for keeping real car clubs going it is a big deal to alot of us around here. Thanks again for reading through my rambling. Now go out and dust off that car it's gonna be 58 degrees this friday.

Upcoming FED Project !

For Those of you who aren't familiar with my love of Vintage Dragracing and FED's I been watching the stuff since i was a wee youngster on daddys lap watching Connie and Cha Cha go at it on Wide World of Sports. We after many years of dreaming and talking smack about it I'm finally taking action. I recently aquired the Blueprints and Specs to build a 160 to 180" wheelbase Slingshot. While many of us around here run gassers and hot rods, even bonniville cars, no one i know runs a FED. So I am taking on this project ground up no rolling chassis of ebay stuff, I'm going to take weekend trips to my brother Porkchops shop www.sinisterhotrods.com and build this chassis from scratch. But As I'm a broke divorced father of 2 coming across all the "Pricy Stuff" (i.e. magnesium rear wheels, 6-71 blowers, Hilborn injectors, all the lil Vintage shit that adds up) is going to be a challenge so I'm going to steal a page out of the "Gow-Cart Cronicales" and come up with some fundraising ideas. But for now theres no set time limit as long as it takes, but if anyone knows of any one with old SBC early 60's drag parts, or swap meets coming up i'd sure apreciate the heads up or if anyone wants to donate any knowledge or wrench time let me know. I'll keep you posted on progress and fundraising stuff through a web site il be setting up for this project, but stay tuned.....And if anyone has any tips or parts they don't need hit me up for now at rdfl313@yahoo.com.
Thanks ,

Cobo Recap!

Cobo 2010' was one of the best yet, If you missed it heres the recap. The tuners section was smaller than ever by next year thell be phased out. Outstanding was the tuner ford bronco 2 with a flathead ford in it ??????? Wow! So For me one of the big deals of the weekend was meeting Connie Kallita, and enjoying all of the "Drag City" section and vintage FED's and Funny Cars on display, Not to mention George Poteet's new hot rod truck. Then Downstairs the highlights were all of the Road Devils and Poor Boys that were here from out of town, made alot of new friends and had alot of good times. Standout moments were Bob's "Gearhead" Car wining the Gene Winfield award, Dave's Truck winning Best Chop, Us winning #2 Best Club Display, Me winning Best Paint, and Best Radical Custom (with a C), Driving Porkchops #666 Coupe, seeing every Road Devil drive in under theyre own power (no trailers). Lets not forget the kiddie ride that was promoting "Sins of Steel" in Davisburg. All in all a great weekend for all of us in the basement. All those moments like 30 guys walking to Lafyaette Coney, and sitting up late talking and watching vintage drags till 4am, Endless empty cases of beer, getting busted riding the go cart around, did i mention Connie Kallita???? HAHAHAHA! Seriously, Great Show. Not related to the show but Well Talked about was the moving of the "Pile Up" this year and all of us not wanting or being able to afford the 10+ hour trip. On the other hand we talked extensively about BBQ's and Weekenders bettween Dayton and Detroit throughout the summer, and Attending Heads Up Hunnert, Nost. Drags at Jalopy Showdown and Milan, as well as a trip to the mueseam in Grand rapids rather than all of the same old shows. Also watch for a development between us and the Frankenmuth show. So Looks to be a good year. We'll have more info on our BBQ and Support Merch after our monthly meeting this Sunday.
Stay Tuned!

A lil Class at Cobo!

Some shots I pilfered of of Keven Carter of our area downstairs....enjoy

The Display!

In case you missed the show heres some shots of our 2nd place club display. I think the point was proved that all three winners were local "real" clubs, no vendors this time around. We put alot of time into this and we are already planning next years. Cobo is without a doubt my fave show of the year..
